Types of music played: House Music

Farley “Jackmaster” Funk is a legendary House Music DJ and record producer. Farley became well known throughout Chicago as a member of the Hot Mix 5 DJ team that broadcast on Chicago’s WBMX-FM. Farley helped make both the Warehouse Club and the Playground legendary in the Chicago music scene. Farley began recording in 1983 with his debut single “Aw Shucks”. Farley created his first house music productions in 1984, including “Funkin with the Drums”, on the House Records label. Composed of drums alone, this track became a standard beat in Chicago house music. Farley, with Jesse Saunders, created the first house single to reach the UK charts. His anthem Love Can’t Turn Around (cover of Isaac Hayes’ I Can’t Turn Around) made the Top Ten in mid-1986.

Farley had several other follow-up hits during the late 1980s, including “Jack My Body”, “Hey Norton”, “The Trax U Lost”, “It’s You” with vocals by Ricky Dillard, and most notably, “House Nation”, credited to House Master Boyz featuring the Rude Boy of House, which followed “Love Can’t Turn Around” into the UK top ten.
